Legislative Changes to Child Support (Eff. 6/29/21)

In March 2021, Governor Andy Beshear passed House Bill 404, an act relating to child support. The bill updates various portions of the child support statutes and takes effect on June 29, 2021. The bill's main changes include: (1) reduces the look-back period for arrearages from four years to two years from date of birth when paternity is established; (2) increases the custodial parent's annual out-of-pocket costs that are not covered by insurance from $100 to $250; (3) includes a method to provide self-support reserve for non-custodial parents with incomes below certain levels; and, (4) updates/expands the base monthly child support chart.
